NEW YORK (TCN) -- A 41-year-old man has been accused of beating his mother to death with a skateboard inside their Lower East Side Manhattan apartment, authorities say.
On Jan. 7, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced that Wei Hou was arraigned on a second-degree murder charge in the death of Zhu Hou, 76, WPIX reports.
On Dec. 19, 2025, officers responded to a report of an unconscious woman in an apartment building, WPIX reports. The case was classified as a homicide.
Prosecutors say Wei Hou moved in with his mother in October and they often fought over money. She reportedly believed that her son was stealing from her to purchase drugs, according to WPIX.
Zhu Hou’s older son found her on Dec. 19 and called the police, WPIX reports. Her spine and most of her ribs were reportedly broken and she had also been hit in the head with a skateboard.
When the elder son came to check on his mother, Wei Hou was reportedly sitting on a bed with a methamphetamine pipe, WPIX reports. He then fled and stayed in different hotels to evade authorities. WPIX reports U.S. Marshals apprehended him outside of Albany, New York, on Christmas Eve.
He pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.
