Ex-husband of former First Lady Dr. Jill Biden charged with murder

WILMINGTON, Del. (TCN) -- A 77-year-old man who was once married to former First Lady Dr. Jill Biden has been charged with murder.
WAGA reports that after an investigation spanning several weeks, William Stevenson was charged with murder after his wife, Linda Stevenson, 64, was found dead in their home on Dec. 28, 2025.
That morning, police received a call concerning a domestic dispute. When they arrived at the residence, Linda Stevenson was unresponsive on the floor. She was pronounced dead at the scene, but the cause and manner of her death have not been released, according to WAGA.
Stevenson was arraigned and taken into custody on Feb. 2. He failed to post $500,000 cash bail and is being held at Howard Young Correctional Institution, CNN reports.
Stevenson and Biden were married from 1970 to 1975. According to CNN, in her memoir, Biden wrote of the relationship, “Looking back, it may seem like that relationship was a mistake of youth. But there was a time when I truly believed we were destined for each other.”
People reports Biden’s biographer Julie Pace said, ”She had these expectations of sort of what that marriage was going to be, and the marriage did not live up to those expectations.”
Linda Stevenson was a family-oriented person, according to CNN. She owned a bookkeeping business and was a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles football team.
