OSKALOOSA, Iowa (TCN) -- A woman who was accused of trying to sell her baby has now been charged in connection to a stabbing.
On Jan. 30, police responded to a report of a stabbing and found a man, whose name has not been released, with a stab wound on his upper right arm, KCRG reports.
Tiffany Smith, 33, allegedly admitted she stabbed the victim with a hunting knife and was charged with willful injury, domestic abuse assault, and four counts of child endangerment. According to court documents obtained by the outlet, the child endangerment charges are due to children being present.
KCCI reports the person who was stabbed is the father of four of Smith’s children.
On Jan. 22, Smith was booked into jail in connection with an August 2025 incident in which she allegedly attempted to sell her newborn baby, KCCI reports.
According to court documents obtained by the outlet, she allegedly gave her 1-month-old to a family member of a potential buyer. They had the baby for a few hours before Smith allegedly demanded $10,000 or the baby back. The child was returned and the family member reportedly showed police a text message exchange with Smith.
KCCI reports the child was removed by the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services and Smith reportedly told officers she needed financial help.
Smith was charged with sale of an individual. She bonded out of jail and waived her preliminary hearing in that case, WHO-DT reports.
Court records obtained by WHO-DT say the state of Iowa requested a no-contact order to protect Smith’s 1-month-old. A hearing to discuss the order is scheduled for Feb. 6. A preliminary hearing for the stabbing case is scheduled for Feb. 10.
