Delaware man pleads guilty to murder for stabbing ex-girlfriend 58 times, dismembering her

NEWARK, Del. (TCN) -- A 33-year-old man has pleaded guilty to murder for killing his girlfriend in 2024, according to the Department of Justice.
The Delaware Attorney General announced Norbert Matara pleaded guilty on April 29 and will face life in prison when he is sentenced.
On Dec. 17, 2024, Matara waited at the home of his ex-girlfriend Tracy Nyariki, 33. When she got home, Matara stabbed her 58 times and then dismembered her body before placing the remains into a suitcase. According to the attorney general, he crossed state lines and was apprehended at a hotel in Maryland; Nyariki’s body was in the trunk of his car.
Delaware Online reports that the investigation began on Dec. 20, 2024, following a welfare check conducted at Nyariki’s apartment because her colleagues were concerned that she had not shown up to work for a few days. WLS-TV reports responding officers found the circumstances suspicious and identified Matara as a potential person of interest. WDEL reports he was arrested Dec. 21, 2024.
Attorney General Kathy Jennings said, “The facts of this case are beyond disturbing. … It is difficult to comprehend this kind of violence.”
According to the attorney general, Matara’s sentencing date has not been set.
