Virginia mom allegedly drowned her twin toddler sons in apartment bathtub

RICHMOND, Va. (TCN) -- A 21-year-old mother has been charged with murder and felony child neglect in connection with the drowning deaths of her twin sons.
On April 17, police received a call regarding two injured boys, WTVR reports, and when they arrived at the apartment, the found the 17-month-old twins in the bathtub. They were both transported to the hospital. One died later that evening, and the next died the following day. The names of the victims have not been released.
On May 7, their mother, Amaya Dixon, was arrested. According to court records obtained by Law & Crime, a grand jury indicted her on two counts of felony murder and two counts of child neglect following a weekslong investigation.
According to WRIC, Dixon is facing unrelated charges in connection with a December 2025 incident, including credit card theft, credit card fraud, grand larceny, and financial exploitation of vulnerable adults.
Law & Crime reports that the circumstances that led up to the incident have not been released and that the investigation is ongoing.
