Mother of slain infant Emmanuel Haro pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter, gets 12 years in prison

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. (TCN) -- The mother of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and waived her right to a trial.
On May 29, Rebecca Haro, 42, pleaded guilty to one count each of involuntary manslaughter, child endangerment, and being an accessory to murder after the fact, according to KTTV. She was sentenced to 12 years and 8 months in prison.
Haro had reported her son missing on Aug. 14, 2025. She told police she was knocked unconscious while she was changing his diaper in a parking lot and the child was gone when she regained consciousness. An intensive search of the area was launched.
Investigators believed Haro’s story was false and the child had died from prolonged abuse and head trauma, based on photo and digital evidence reviewed by doctors.
A forensic pediatric specialist who reviewed the evidence said Emmanuel Haro had abnormal shaking in his extremities caused by a brain injury due to abuse, KABC reports.
Emmanuel Haro’s body has not been found, but his father, Jake Haro, was sentenced to 32 years in prison in November 2025 after pleading guilty to murder, KTTV reports. According to KESQ, Assistant District Attorney Brandon Smith does not believe the child’s body will ever be recovered.
At the hearing, KTTV reports Smith said, “Rebecca Haro is going to prison because she failed as a mother. She may not have put her hands on Emmanuel, but she knew that Jake was, and she had a responsibility to intervene, and she chose repeatedly not to.”
