Florida man accused of sexually battering, strangling wife after she filed for divorce over violent behavior

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (TCN) -- A grand jury has indicted a 47-year-old man on charges of murder, sexual battery, and burglary with assault or battery in connection with the January death of a woman who was reportedly his wife.
Police were called to a home on Jan. 23 to conduct a welfare check, KATV reports. Responding officers found the body of a woman, whose name has not been released by authorities. She had been sexually battered and strangled.
A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Department investigation revealed the woman had filed for divorce from her husband, Raymond Jackson Jr., in the weeks preceding her death. She allegedly cited violent behavior as the reason she was filing for divorce and also filed an injunction for stalking. A judge reportedly denied that request, according to KATV. First Coast News reports her body was found three days after the request was denied.
On Jan. 29, while reportedly on the run from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Jackson allegedly led authorities on a high-speed chase; he was charged after allegedly hitting a K-9 unit with his car, News4Jax reports.
On May 13, Jackson was sentenced to three years behind bars for aggravated fleeing of a law enforcement officer, according to First Coast News. He was indicted May 21 on charges of murder, sexual battery, and burglary with assault or battery while imprisoned on the aggravated fleeing charge.
News4Jax reports he was transferred to Duval County Jail on June 29 and arrested on the charges. His arraignment is scheduled for July 13, according to court records obtained by News4Jax.
First Coast News reports that prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty.
