Pharmacist who allegedly tried to pull wife’s head off, shot her, and ate her remains told 911 dispatchers she was ‘dead as fried chicken’

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. (TCN) -- A 57-year-old man has been charged with criminal homicide in connection with his wife’s death.

On July 1, Douglas “Kirk” Rawl dialed 911 and allegedly told the dispatcher he had killed his wife, 52-year-old Allison “Che Che” Rawl. Law & Crime reports Douglas Rawl allegedly told the dispatcher, “I genuinely thought that she was the devil, and I thought that I was the son of God, or even Jesus,” when asked why he had allegedly shot her. 

The dispatcher then asked Rawl if his wife was still breathing and he allegedly replied, “No, she is dead as fried chicken.”

When deputies arrived, Rawl was allegedly taking his clothes off outside. When commanded to follow their orders, he allegedly refused and was tased, according to Law & Crime. WSMV reports Allison Rawl was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office announced Douglas Rawl’s arrest on July 2. Following his arrest, he was treated for injuries to the forehead that he sustained during his arrest.

Rawl allegedly told investigators that he and his wife got into argument after she woke him up from sleeping on the couch, Law & Crime reports. He allegedly said he was on top of her trying to pull off her head. When that did not work, he shot her in the chest several times. He allegedly said he was unsure if the events had really occurred, so he tried to eat a piece of his wife’s body because he still believed she was the devil.

WKRM reports Douglas Rawl was a licensed pharmacist. The outlet spoke to Anna Baldwin, a neighbor of the couple who said she had spoken to Allison Rawl shortly before her death and believes that there was domestic abuse occurring in the Rawl home.

Baldwin said, “We knew something strange was going on in the house. … The wife was very open with my mom about what was going on; she felt like she had someone to lean on in my mom, so she talked to her a lot about what was going on. She would never tell me or my siblings the details. It was some pretty dark stuff pertaining to their personal life and their marriage.”

Douglas Rawl’s bond has been set at $2.5 million, according to the sheriff’s office. The investigation is ongoing.
