Convicted serial killer sentenced to death for 2002 murder of hospital worker

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (TCN) -- A convicted serial killer has been sentenced to death in for strangling a woman and leaving her in the trunk of her car in a drugstore parking lot in 2002.
Demorris Hunter, 59, was convicted in April of the murder of 38-year-old Theresa Green. After seven hours of deliberation, WFTV reports that the jury unanimously decided to recommend the death penalty on Aug. 4.
Hunter was identified as a suspect based on interviews with neighbor and evidence collected from Green’s apartment, according to WFTV. The case went unsolved for many years, and Hunter has been serving a life sentence since 2002 after being arrested in connection with a woman’s death in Oakland, California.
At trial, prosecutors said that Green and Hunter were dating at the time she was killed but that he had lied about his history, Court TV reports. According to WESH, Hunter’s criminal history dates back to 1985, when he was convicted of killing a man in California. He was released 12 years later and following the release, killed a woman and was sentenced to 110 years behind bars.
Court TV reports that at Hunter’s sentencing, Judge Lisa Munyon declined to let him speak in court. She said, “Demorris Andy Hunter, you have not only forfeited your right to dwell among us as a free man, but by your actions and under the law of the State of Florida, you have forfeited your right to live, as well.”
