‘Crimes that shock the conscience’: Man gets life sentence plus 490 years for rape, sexual abuse of newborn

COBB COUNTY, Ga. (TCN) -- A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison plus 490 years for the rape, sexual abuse, and exploitation of a baby girl.
According to a press release from the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office, Marcel Moreland entered a non-negotiated guilty plea to 25 counts related to the treatment of the infant that began when she was a month old and continued until she was 6 months of age.
The abuse occurred from April to October 2024, according to arrest warrants obtained by the Marietta Daily Journal. Moreland reportedly filmed himself raping the infant and then shared the videos on Instagram.
The relationship between Moreland and the baby girl has not been disclosed, per WAGA.
Cobb County District Attorney Sonya F. Allen said, “There are crimes that shock the conscience, and the sexual abuse and exploitation of an infant is among the most unimaginable. This child deserved protection from the person entrusted to care for her. Instead, she was victimized in the most horrific way,” WAGA reports.
