GOSHEN, Calif. (TCD) -- Six people were shot and killed in the early hours of Monday morning in what investigators believe was a targeted shooting involving gangs and narcotics.
According to Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux, on Jan. 16 at 3:38 a.m., dispatch received several reports of shots fired on the 6800 block of Harvest Road in Goshen. Callers reportedly initially thought there was an active shooter in the area due to the amount of gunfire heard.
Deputies arrived at the scene seven minutes later and found two victims deceased in the street. They called for more assistance, and then made their way into the house. Deputies located a third person deceased in the doorway of the home. Boudreaux said there are six victims in all, including a 17-year-old mother and a 6-month-old child. They were both reportedly shot in the head.
Boudreaux said deputies performed CPR on one male victim who was still alive and transported to a hospital, but he died from his wounds.
According to Boudreaux, the shooting was "not a random act of violence" and instead, an attack on a "targeted family" who were likely involved in drugs.
Last week, deputies reportedly conducted a narcotics search at the same residence. The Los Angeles Times reports investigators found guns, meth, and marijuana at the home.
Boudreaux told the Los Angeles Times, "I think it’s specifically connected to the cartel," and said the shooting was "not your run-of-the-mill, low-end gang member."
An older woman was reportedly killed in her bed Monday morning and shot in the head.
Two people reportedly survived the shooting.
Boudreaux did not release any details about suspects involved in the shooting but said the Sheriff’s Office "pulled out all the resources" at the scene in order to obtain as much information as possible.
