VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (TCD) -- The Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office announced this week that a 27-year-old former Navy sailor will spend 15 years in prison for fatally shooting his estranged wife’s boyfriend in 2022.
Tyler Jenkins and his wife, C.P., got married in 2011 and separated by August 2021, the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office said. They reportedly spoke with a divorce attorney but continued to live in separate bedrooms in the same apartment even though they were seeing other people.
On March 11, 2022, C.P., who was also in the Navy, returned home after being away on duty. She told Jenkins she was planning to hang out with her boyfriend Timothy Talley and some friends that night. She returned home several hours later, and Jenkins’ bedroom door was reportedly closed, so they were not sure if he was actually home or not. According to the Attorney’s Office, Talley and C.P. "were having intercourse in C.P.’s room when Jenkins came in, armed with a pistol, and fired four shots."
Talley was shot three times and died as a result. C.P. called 911, and the Virginia Beach Police Department responded to the home on the 4800 block of Crystalline Place, where they found the victim deceased. Jenkins was taken into custody without incident.
Police interviewed Jenkins, and he reportedly "asked what he was supposed to do if someone was sleeping with his wife." According to the Attorney’s Office, he changed his story and claimed he believed Talley was raping his wife. He then went back to his initial story.
Investigators also search Jenkins’ phone and discovered he had "sexual relations with other women." Following his arrest, the Attorney’s Office said C.P. found "evidence of sexual activity by Jenkins in their apartment."
Jenkins was booked into the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office and later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and use of a firearm in January. The Attorney’s Office announced Monday, May 1, that per the plea agreement, Jenkins was sentenced to 23 years in prison with eight suspended, leaving 15 years to serve.
