MONTICELLO, Maine (TCD) -- Police arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of killing his 42-year-old live-in girlfriend, whose body was found in a wooded area.
According to Maine State Police, on Sunday, June 18, Kimberly Hardy’s mother reported her missing after she had not been seen since Friday, June 16, at her home in New Limerick. Maine State Police Troop F, Computer Crimes Unit, Maine Warden Service, and Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North started searching for Hardy after receiving the missing person call.
The Houlton Police Department noted that Hardy was undergoing cancer treatments, which were "supposed to be ongoing."
The search for Hardy led investigators to a wooded area near the area of the Harvey Siding Road, where Maine game wardens reportedly located a body. The chief medical examiner in Augusta will confirm the victim’s identity and cause of death.
On Monday, June 26, at around 3:45 a.m., troopers arrested Hardy’s boyfriend, Jayme Schnackenberg, on suspicion of Hardy’s slaying at his home on School Street.
