MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (TCD) -- A jury found a 40-year-old man guilty last week of invading his ex-girlfriend's home and attacking her new boyfriend while the couple and multiple children were sleeping.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido announced Tuesday, June 6, that Maurice Frazier was convicted of home invasion, a 20-year felony, and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, a 10-year felony. He was convicted June 1 following a four-day trial.
According to Lucido, on May 1, Frazier entered his ex-girlfriend's home "without permission" while she, her new boyfriend, and six children were sleeping. Lucido said Frazier then "barged" into his ex's bedroom and "sliced her new boyfriend's arm" with a 23-inch machete. The male victim suffered "severe injury to his arm."
Frazier is scheduled to be sentenced on Tuesday, July 18.
In a statement, Lucido said, "We are grateful to the jury for their careful consideration and thoughtful deliberation in this case. Finding the defendant guilty of home invasion and assault with intent to do great bodily harm, sends a powerful message that our community will not tolerate acts of intrusion and violence."
