South Carolina man accused of breaking into home, strangling his 74-year-old mother to death

LITTLE RIVER, S.C. (TCD) -- A 39-year-old man was arrested for allegedly breaking into a residence and strangling his 74-year-old mother to death earlier this month.
According to WBTW-TV, a police report said Horry County officers responded to a home on Greenbriar Drive on Dec. 4 at approximately 10:30 p.m. WBTB reports that the suspect, Joseph Fielis, allowed officers inside the home, where they found a 74-year-old female victim strangled to death in the bathroom. Fielis was arrested at the scene.
According to arrest warrants obtained by WBTW, Fielis broke into the home that night through a window. Evidence reportedly revealed that "some type of assault" occurred in the home.
WBTW reports that on Tuesday, Dec. 14, the coroner’s office confirmed the victim’s identity as Kathleen Fielis.
According to jail records, Fielis remains held without bond in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. The investigation remains ongoing.
According to Kathleen Fielis’ obituary, she was the suspect’s mother.
