FREEHOLD, N.J. (TCD) -- A 55-year-old former youth gymnastics coach faces charges after allegedly sexually assaulting three athletes he coached while they were juveniles in the '90s, as well as in 2008.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office announced Monday, June 5, that Sasha Raught was arrested and criminally charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault and three counts of second-degree sexual assault.
Raught reportedly worked as a gymnastics coach for approximately 30 years in multiple locations around Monmouth County. In the early to mid-1990s, the Prosecutor’s Office alleges Raught was sexually involved with two teenagers he coached at Shrewsbury Gymnastics.
More than a decade later, in 2008, Raught reportedly engaged in a sexual relationship with a third underage victim when he worked at Jonas Gymnastics Academy in Marlboro, New Jersey.
Members of the Prosecutor’s Office and the Manchester and Shrewsbury police departments arrested Raught at his home in late May. He was booked into the Monmouth County Jail on May 24 without bond.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Raught faces up to 20 years in state prison for the first-degree aggravated sexual assault charge.
