COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (TCD) -- Law enforcement officials arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of murder and attempted murder after six people died and one person was injured following a house fire.
According to the Colleton County Sheriff's Office, on Sunday, July 2, at approximately 11 a.m., officials were called to a house fire on Folly Creek Lane in Green Pond and found the six deceased victims. Colleton County Fire Rescue said the home "suffered substantial damage."
The person who survived was transported via CARE Flight to a local hospital for treatment.
Deputies arrested Ryan Lenard Manigo on a charge of attempted murder, and he's currently being held at the Colleton County Jail.
At a press conference Monday, July 3, Colleton County Sheriff Guerry "Buddy" Hill Jr. said the 911 caller told dispatch there was a stabbing and a house was on fire with the victims still inside. Fire Rescue arrived at the scene and found the home "fully engulfed in flames." The 13-year-old survivor provided deputies with a description of the suspect, and officials located Manigo nearby.
Hill identified two of the victims as 50-year-old Michelle Marie Wright and 11-year-old Shariah Manigo. Ryan Manigo is Shariah's father and Wright's brother-in-law, and he is now being charged with two counts of murder.
The other four victims still need to be positively identified, though a family member told WCBD-TV that one of the victims was a 101-year-old woman.
Hill said investigators still do not have a motive.
