CWD Investigates: Overwhelming backlog of rape kits never tested

In the United States, 97 percent of rapists will never be caught or spend any time in jail. Part of the problem is an overwhelming backlog of untested rape kits all across the country.
In 2014, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that would provide nearly $1 billion over the next four years to help with the backlog of DNA evidence-testing needed across the country.
In its most recent study, the U.S. Department of Justice says its DNA backlog exceeds 111,000 samples.
