TUCSON, Ariz. (TCD) -- A 37-year-old man was arrested and charged after allegedly fatally shooting his mother over the weekend.
According to KOLD-TV, on Sunday, Nov. 6, Pima County Sheriff's deputies responded to a home on the 5000 block of West Nighthawk, where they discovered Jonathan Hatmaker at the front door holding a handgun. Hatmaker reportedly called 911 and told dispatchers, "I killed my mom and she deserved it."
Authorities asked him why she deserved to be shot, and Hatmaker replied, "She gave birth to me," KOLD reports.
The Pima County Sheriff's Office told KSAZ-TV that during a search of the home, deputies found the mother, 66-year-old Peggy Hatmaker, with signs of trauma, and she succumbed to her injuries.
According to a complaint obtained by KOLD, the victim was shot multiple times, including once in the head. Due to the blood spatter, investigators reportedly concluded that the victim was on her back when she was shot under the chin.
Hatmaker, who has a history of mental illness, was reportedly arrested and booked into the Pima County Jail for first-degree murder. He remains held on $1 million bail, records show.
