ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (TCD) -- A 54-year-old man stands accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend after asking her for money and sneaking into her home.
According to a news release from the Kirkwood Police Department, on Saturday, Aug. 13, at approximately 10 p.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of Ascot Lane to a report of a disturbance. At the scene, authorities reportedly found a victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Police said she was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to court documents obtained by KMOV-TV, the victim, Elizabeth Gill, called police and said a man was inside her home pointing a gun at her. The man, later identified as the victim’s ex-boyfriend Todd Wilbert, was reportedly heard in the background along with a gunshot during the phone call.
Police said the suspected murder weapon was recovered in the area, and Gilbert was allegedly found intoxicated. He was taken into custody.
During an interview, Wilbert told authorities that he asked Gill for money and was waiting for her on the back patio of her house, KMOV reports. The two reportedly co-owned a business in addition to being ex-lovers.
According to police, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Wilbert with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, burglary, and unlawful use of a weapon. He remains held at the St. Louis County Justice Center on $500,000 bond.
