KEMMERER, Wyo. (TCD) -- A 51-year-old woman was arrested after a 5-year-old girl was found unresponsive and later died.
According to a news release from Kemmerer Police Chief Michael Kahre, in the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 25, officers responded to a home to a report of an unresponsive female child. At the scene, police said they found the victim "laying on the couch in the living room."
The girl was reportedly transported to the South Lincoln Medical Center and airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital in Utah. Kahre said the girl died from her injuries the next day.
During an interview, police said Cheri Lynn Marler’s story to officers was not consistent with the victim’s injuries. Marler was reportedly arrested and charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.
Police did not disclose the suspect’s relationship to the child, and the investigation is ongoing.
The Kemmerer Police Department thanked multiple agencies working on the case, including the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the Lincoln County Attorney’s Office, the Diamondville Police Department, and the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.
