NORRISTOWN, Pa. (TCD) -- A 32-year-old man was arrested earlier this week for allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend to death while her three children were in a nearby room.
According to a press release from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, on Monday, Jan. 10, Norristown Police officers responded to an apartment shortly before 4 p.m. to a report of an unresponsive female. Upon their arrival, officers reportedly found Keishla Arroyo-Rodriguez deceased on the bathroom floor.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, Arroyo-Rodriguez’s 7-year-old daughter "looked under the locked bathroom door and saw her mother lying on the floor. She called her father, who called 911."
Upon further investigation, the District Attorney’s Office says Elvyn Rodriguez, the victim’s ex-boyfriend, had moved out of the apartment before Christmas after Arroyo-Rodriguez allegedly broke up with him.
The 7-year-old daughter was reportedly in the apartment with her 3- and 5-year-old siblings when she saw Rodriguez enter the home and go into the bathroom where her mother was showering. After they heard "several bangs," the District Attorney’s Office says the suspect exited the bathroom and left the apartment, taking car keys from their drawer.
Prior to her death, Arroyo-Rodriguez allegedly told her daughter’s father that Rodriguez had punched her in the face before their breakup. According to the District Attorney’s Office, Rodriguez also texted and called the daughter’s father and asked if Arroyo-Rodriguez had been seeing other men.
The District Attorney’s Office says an autopsy report revealed that Arroyo-Rodriguez’s cause of death was a single gunshot to the head, and it was ruled a homicide.
Rodriguez was taken into custody Tuesday, Jan. 11. He faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, second-degree murder, third-degree murder, burglary, theft by unlawful taking, endangering the welfare of children, and related charges.
Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said in a statement, "This murder of Keishla Arroyo-Rodriguez, a mother of small children, is a horrific ending to a domestic violence situation."
