CLEVELAND (TCD) -- A 39-year-old man was arrested after his missing teen girlfriend’s body was found under a pile of clothes.
According to WJW-TV, Bennie Washington was taken into custody on charges of aggravated murder and abuse of a corpse for the death of his 18-year-old girlfriend, Audreona Barnes. She was reported missing in July from Warrensville Heights.
On Thursday, March 17, a cleaning worker reportedly found her body under a pile of clothes on the balcony at Washington’s former apartment on the 4300 block of Warner Road. Washington was reportedly evicted from the apartment on March 11, WJW reports.
Cleveland.com, which cites court records, reports Barnes was shot in the head. Investigators reportedly believe her body was left outside underneath the blankets and clothes to hasten decomposition.
According to WOIO-TV, Barnes had hopes of joining the Army one day and met with recruiters the day she went missing.
