N.J. man accused of beating grandmother to death with heavy object

CARTERET, N.J. (TCD) -- Prosecutors are charging a 26-year-old man with murder and other crimes after he allegedly beat his grandmother to death with a heavy object.
According to a statement, on Monday, May 1, at just before 5:30 p.m., Carteret Police received a call about a man walking on Taylor Avenue who "appeared to be covered in blood." Police located the man, Cyril Lloyd, and escorted him home.
Carteret Police entered the residencec and located 77-year-old Juanita Quinones deceased with apparent head wounds. Officers arrested Lloyd on charges of first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
NJ.com reports police discovered Quinones dead inside the bathroom of the home where she lived with her daughter and Lloyd. The affidavit cited by NJ.com says investigators found a 5-pound weight and statue near Quinones' body, which they believe were used in the killing.
The affidavit reportedly says Quinones was "struck multiple times on her head," which caused her to "bleed profusely throughout the area."
Family members reportedly told NJ.com Lloyd has a history of mental illness and drug use and is not employed.
