HOUSTON (TCD) -- A 39-year-old child molester will spend four decades behind bars for repeatedly sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl for a year and a half starting in August 2015.
Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced July 18 that a judge sentenced Brian Washington to 40 years in prison without the possibility of parole after a jury convicted him of continuous sexual assault of a child.
According to KHOU-TV, the victim, who is now 14 years old, testified and said Washington sexually assaulted her and showed her pornography. The victim reportedly called Washington a "monster."
The District Attorney's Office said Washington befriended the girl's family but failed to inform them about his past as a child sex offender. Ogg noted that Washington "stayed overnight at the home often, and that is when he raped the child."
Assistant District Attorney James McKenney said Washington inserted himself into the family by "acting like a father figure, helping with chores, and giving parenting advice."
The girl's mother allegedly attacked Washington with a knife when she found out about the sexual assault, and the Houston Police Department investigated the case.
Ogg said in a statement, "There is nothing we can do to give this girl her childhood back, but we can do our best to get justice, and that means putting him in prison until he is 80 years old."
On the witness stand, Washington reportedly admitted he also impregnated a 12-year-old girl in 2005, who had to have an abortion, but he was not convicted.
According to the District Attorney's Office, Washington previously served seven years in prison for molesting a 14-year-old girl. KHOU reports that the incident occurred in 2006, and Washington pleaded guilty to the crime in 2007.
