Florida mother, boyfriend accused of kidnapping 4-year-old boy at knifepoint

TAMPA, Fla. (TCD) -- A 29-year-old mother and her 33-year-old boyfriend were arrested this week for allegedly kidnapping a 4-year-old boy.
According to a press release from the Tampa Police Department, on Wednesday, Feb. 16, Terry Baylen was reported missing. Police say before he was located, he had last been seen on the 4100 block of North McDill Avenue.
According to WTVT-TV, the boy’s biological mother, Kami George, and her boyfriend, Matthew Leighton, appeared at the child’s day care center on Wednesday, Feb. 16, when the child’s foster parent was picking him up.
Leighton allegedly held down the foster parent at knifepoint as George grabbed the juvenile and they fled the scene, injuring the foster parent with their car door as they left.
An Amber Alert was issued by police that night. WTVT reports that the 4-year-old victim and two suspects were located near Big Bend hours later.
According to WTVT, George and Leighton were arrested and charged with armed kidnapping, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and interference with custody. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are reportedly possible.
