CLEVELAND (TCD) -- A 20-year-old mother was arrested on suspicion of murder this week after she allegedly left her young child home alone for eight days while she went on vacation.
Cleveland Municipal Court records show Kristel Candelario was arrested Monday, June 19, on a murder charge. A judge set her bond at $1 million the next day.
According to the affidavit cited by WKYC-TV, Candelario returned home Friday, June 16, to her home on West 97th Street in Cleveland and found her 16-month-old daughter Jailyn dead. Police reportedly noted the girl was "extremely dehydrated."
Candelario reportedly told police she traveled to Puerto Rico and Michigan for eight days and left Jailyn at home alone. The affidavit cited by WEWS-TV also says Jailyn’s play area "consisted of soiled blankets and a bottom liner saturated with urine and feces."
WEWS reports Jailyn’s cause of death has not been shared publicly yet.
Candelario’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 28.
