Texas man accused of fatally shooting brother-in-law

BOWIE COUNTY, Texas (TCD) -- A 50-year-old man stands accused of fatally shooting his brother-in-law.
According to a news release from the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday, June 21, at approximately 7:54 p.m., deputies responded to the 500 block of Birch Street in Maud, Texas, to a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, authorities reportedly found a victim, 39-year-old Larry Kirby, lying in the roadway and being treated by a witness.
Kirby had allegedly been shot, and a tourniquet had been placed on his leg. The Sheriff’s Office says EMS personnel arrived and performed lifesaving measures, although Kirby later succumbed to his injuries. Before his death, Kirby reportedly told the person treating him that he had been shot by his brother-in-law, Billy Scott. The citizen relayed this to authorities in a 911 call, the Sheriff’s Office says.
Scott was reportedly contacted by authorities, and arrangements were made for his surrender. According to the Sheriff’s Office, he was arrested and booked into the Bi State Jail on a charge of murder. Scott’s bond has not yet been set.
