EVANSVILLE, Ind. (TCD) -- The 30-year-old son of Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly allegedly crashed his car while drunk, then attempted to sell the damaged vehicle back to Honda.
Evansville Police arrest records show Jordon Mattingly was taken into custody at 4400 E. Division St. on Monday, May 30, for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
According to WXIN-TV, several people called 911 to report an SUV hitting a cement divider and seeing it being driven in an "unsafe and erratic" way. One caller said the driver appeared "super drunk."
Mattingly allegedly made his way to a nearby Honda dealership on Division Street and told staff he wanted to "sell this piece of crap."
WXIN reports Mattingly’s car was missing a front tire and suffered major damage to the front left side.
The Evansville Courier & Press, which cites the arrest affidavit, reports Mattingly had some injuries on his shin and forehead. He allegedly told Evansville Police officers he only had "one drink," then later admitted he had "a lot" of alcohol. A breathalyzer test concluded Mattingly was 3.5 times over the legal limit. WXIN says police found an open can of Four Loko in Mattingly’s car and other unopened cans.
According to the court documents, Mattingly blamed the car damage on hitting a pothole a few days before but denied hitting a pole or any other objects while driving to the dealership.
He was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on two counts of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and one count of public intoxication.
