ERIN, Tenn. (TCD) -- A 32-year-old New Orleans murder suspect was recently captured following a days-long multistate search.
According to a press release from the New Orleans Police Department, on Monday, June 27, BJ Brown allegedly killed the victim on the 1400 block of Iberville Street. Brown reportedly killed Cassandra Jones in an execution-style manner that he filmed and shared on social media, WVUE-TV reports. Police obtained an arrest warrant against Brown for one count of second-degree murder.
In a news release from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, authorities announced Brown was also wanted for attempted first-degree murder after he shot a Tennessee police officer.
In the video of Jones’ killing, Brown, armed with an AR-15 rifle, allegedly approached Jones in a parking lot. Jones, who had already been shot, was lying nearly motionless as Brown fired two more rounds into her body execution-style, WVUE reports.
A month before her death, Jones had allegedly filed a restraining order against Brown, but he never showed up to court. In the restraining order obtained by WVUE, it alleges that Brown punched, choked, shoved, kicked, threatened, intimidated, and sexually abused Jones. Brown also reportedly inflicted mental, emotional, and financial abuse on Jones.
According to a press conference held by Houston County law enforcement, on Monday, June 27, Brown abandoned his car after shooting a Tennessee officer during a traffic stop.
The officer Brown shot was transported to a hospital via helicopter for treatment, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says. His injuries were not life-threatening and he is in stable condition, WTVF-TV reports.
After shooting the officer, Brown reportedly fled into a heavily wooded area about 65 miles west of Nashville. After a search of the wooded area, Brown was eventually located and taken into custody, Houston County law enforcement says.
