INDIANOLA, Miss. (TCD) -- An 11-year-old boy was recently released from the hospital after a police officer shot him in the chest while responding to a domestic disturbance at the boy’s home.
According to CNN, on Saturday, May 20, Aderrien Murry’s mother asked him to call Indianola Police because she was worried when the father of her other child showed up "irate" at her home at 4 a.m.
Nakala Murry said at a protest outside Indianola City Hall she gave Aderrien her phone to call her mother and police regarding the man because she knows "what can happen after him being irate."
The cops arrived, knocked on the door, and told everyone inside the home to walk outside. Nakala said Aderrien was running from his room around the corner to the living room when the officer shot him.
"It was an instant," she said.
Nakala added, "He ran to me. He was bleeding. I held him. I held his wound. He bled out the mouth. Every time I close my eyes, I see it."

He’s the one who called 9-1-1.
He was not armed.

Aderrien was taken to University of Mississippi Medical Center and put on a chest tube and ventilator for a collapsed lung, fractured ribs, and lacerated liver. He was released from the hospital Wednesday, May 24.
Greg Capers, the officer who shot Aderrien, has been placed on paid administrative leave, CNN reports. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation said in a statement they were "currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence."
At the protest Thursday, Aderrien’s attorney Carlos Moore said he is calling on the district attorney to file criminal charges against Capers.
He said, "This man not only deserves to be terminated but he needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
The investigation remains ongoing.
