KENT, Wash. (TCN) -- Four people have been charged with participating in the fatal shooting of a 13-year-old boy who accompanied his friend in what turned out to be a deadly robbery.
KOMO-TV reports 20-year-old Diavante Dunmore, 17-year-old Marsais Dunmore, 16-year-old Semarias Woods, and 18-year-old Faysal Abdullahi have been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery for the death of Matthiew Stavkovy.
On the evening of July 16, Kent Police Department officers and Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority firefighters responded to an apartment complex on Benson Road after receiving a call about a male shot. Police arrived within minutes and found Stavkovy with a gunshot wound. First responders rendered aid, but he died at the scene.
Investigators arrested Abdullahi and two other suspects on July 22.
According to court documents cited by KOMO, the four suspects reportedly devised a plan to rob someone they had been communicating with on OfferUp to buy a camera. They told the seller to meet them at Turnkey Park at 9 p.m. on July 16. Prosecutors wrote in the criminal complaint that they "planned an approach route. They had a getaway driver. They arrived early so they could stage themselves before the victims' arrival."
Stavkovy was reportedly friends with the person who was selling the camera, so he went with them.
KOMO reports one of the four suspects pushed the seller and stole the camera and other accessories. Stavkovy, his friend, and another witness fled on an ATV after seeing that one of the suspects had a gun. Marsais Dunmore is alleged to have fired the fatal shot.
According to the Kent Reporter, Abdullahi allegedly created the OfferUp request for the camera. Diavante Dunmore reportedly told police his brother took out a gun and shot at the victims, striking Stavkovy.
KOMO reports Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Thomas O’Bann wrote in the complaint, "While the defendants may not have set out that evening to kill anyone, they knowingly engaged in a dangerous and violent offense while one of their numbers was armed with a deadly weapon, and set in motion a chain of events that killed one victim and could easily have killed others."
