RICHMOND, Va. (TCD) -- Police announced they have located a teen they believed shot and killed another teen in October and then left the body in a dumpster.
According to a statement, on Tuesday, Nov. 1, detectives from the Richmond Police Department and U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested a 17-year-old male on charges of murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
On Oct. 19 at 2:37 p.m., Richmond Police officers went to the 2200 block of North 23rd Street regarding a shooting and found the victim "down and unresponsive in a residential disposal container."
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Acting Chief Rick Edwards said in the statement, "Detectives have worked tirelessly on this investigation since the senseless, violent incident. Their diligent efforts succeeded in identifying the suspect — and with the help of our federal partners he was located and apprehended without incident."
According to WRIC-TV, the victim was identified as Tamel Durant. He reportedly moved to Richmond from Brooklyn to live with his father during the pandemic. Durant reportedly enjoyed playing basketball and rooting for the Golden State Warriors.
Durant’s father told WTVR-TV his son was a "good kid — a harmless individual."
Daytoria Durant, the teen’s stepmother, shared with WRIC, "We need answers. We don’t have the answers. Tamel was not a threat to anybody. It’s confusing. It’s a cycle. We are so distraught. We try to breathe and it starts all over again. I feel like I’m publicly drowning and my life is shattered"
