DALLAS (TCD) -- Police have arrested a 54-year-old man accused of shooting his 49-year-old neighbor to death during a dispute over the weekend.
According to a news release from the Dallas Police Department, on Sunday, May 14, at approximately 1:20 a.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Hoke Smith Drive to a report of a shooting. Carlos Gonzalez, the victim, was transported to the hospital, where he died from his wounds.
Police allege Lonnie Holcombe shot Gonzalez. According to KDFW-TV, the suspect was upset because the family next door would regularly play loud music, and "they were interfering with his life."
On Saturday, May 13, Gonzalez was reportedly celebrating his 6-year-old grandchild’s birthday with his family, and the party continued after the children went to bed.
Gonzalez’s son allegedly drove to the house in his truck and was playing loud music with his friends. Holcombe then allegedly shot multiple rounds at the truck with a BB gun, causing damage to the vehicle.
KDFW reports that the dispute progressed. Gonzalez’s son and his friends reportedly confronted Holcombe, and the argument evolved into a physical fight involving multiple people. Holcombe allegedly grabbed a handgun and shot Gonzalez in the chest.
Officials located Holcombe at the scene, and he was booked into the Dallas County Jail on a charge of murder. His bond was set at $250,000.
The victim leaves behind a wife, three children, and several grandchildren.
