TOPEKA, Kan. (TCD) -- A 32-year-old man is accused of intentionally setting fire to a house, killing a 30-year-old woman and two children, ages 9 and 1.
In a news release, the Topeka Fire Department said they responded to the house fire on Warren Avenue on Jan. 20 shortly before 5 a.m. There, fire crews reportedly noticed "heavy smoke and flames coming from a two-story house and began an offensive fire attack."
Inside the home, the fire department said they rescued an adult and juvenile, and they were transported to the hospital, where the child later died. Fire crews reportedly found another adult and child who were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the fire department, the deceased victims were identified as Genny Fitzpatrick and two children, Peyton Tyler and Kourtney Tyler.
On Saturday, Jan. 21, the surviving adult, Kyle Tyler, was reportedly released from the hospital. The fire department said he was interviewed at the Law Enforcement Center and arrested for first-degree murder, aggravated arson, and aggravated child endangerment. He remains held in the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on $1 million bond, records show.
Fitzpatrick and Kyle Tyler were allegedly in a relationship, the Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
