PARIS, Texas (TCN) -- A 24-year-old man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly pouring gasoline in his 4-month-old daughter's mouth because he wanted her to die.
According to the Austin America-Statesman, on Saturday, Aug. 10, at around noon, local emergency medical services contacted the Paris Police Department for assistance at a home on the 1300 block of Pine Bluff Street. USA Today reports police learned the child's father, Edgar Bridgemon, allegedly "had intentionally given the infant gasoline to drink."
Bridgemon reportedly ran away from the address, but soon returned. Capt. Terry Bull told USA Today Bridgemon "admitted to having given the infant gasoline to drink with the intention of ending the child’s life."
KDFW-TV reports the little girl was "awake and crying" when police arrived. She was transported to a local hospital, then transferred to Children's Medical Center in Dallas.
Bull told KDFW Bridgemon confessed, which allowed them to arrest him.
Lamar County Jail records show Bridgemon is being held on charges of attempted capital murder and evading arrest.
