MILPITAS, Calif. (TCD) -- A 42-year-old man stands accused of killing his 35-year-old ex-girlfriend after fleeing from officers with the victim's deceased body in the vehicle.
According to a press release from the Milpitas Police Department, on Jan. 2, Anthony Jon Juco fled from officers in his ex-girlfriend's car, and the chase resulted in a solo vehicle collision. The victim, Christina Raymond, was reportedly located in the back seat of the car and had suffered injuries consistent with having been attacked with a knife. According to police, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Upon further investigation, police say they learned that the victim was a resident of Alameda County and had stopped in Milpitas when the incident occurred.
According to KTVU-TV, Raymond was delivering food for DoorDash the day of the crime when she realized someone was following her. She was reportedly on the phone with her current boyfriend, Lennart Persson, at the time.
Persson told KTVU that Juco had been sending Raymond threatening messages since their breakup, adding, "It was just getting worse and worse the prior month. He just kept saying some really nasty things about when he sees her it’s going to be a problem, 'I'm going to kill you and your family.'"
Persson reportedly insisted that Raymond call 911 and believes she attempted to drive to the Milpitas Police Department and ended up next door in a Public Works parking lot.
Officers reportedly arrived in the Public Works parking lot as the suspect fled in the victim's Toyota Camry.
According to police, Simona Marie Atondo, Juco's mother, told officers she helped Juco escape when officers arrived after seeing Raymond's body in the car. Atondo was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on Jan. 2.
According to police, Juco remains in the hospital as of Jan. 4, due to his injuries from the crash as well as presumed self-inflicted injuries. He will be booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for homicide following clearance by doctors.
According to KTVU, in addition to the murder charges, Juco is a registered sex offender.
