MARQUETTE, Mich. -- (WLUC) -- Charges have been filed against a juvenile after young boy died as a result of injuries sustained in an earlier attempted suicide.
Sources confirm the young boy was 11-year-old Tysen Benz who attempted to take his life on March 14. Benz passed away on April 4 from his injuries.
Through the investigation by the Marquette Police Department, it was learned that the Benz was engaged in communication with another juvenile via social media prior to the incident.
The Marquette County Prosecutor's Office authorized charges for Telecommunication Services - Malicious Use and Computers - Using to Commit a Crime for the other juvenile involved.
Names in this complaint were not released by the Marquette Police Department due to their status as juveniles.
According to Marquette Area Public Schools (MAPS) Superintendent William Saunders, "The loss of Tysen has been felt by all of his teachers, classmates and well beyond our school walls by our entire community."
MAPS has been cooperating with local law enforcement on the investigation. The school is also "educating students and parents through our health curriculum, health fairs, second step messaging, O.K. to Say, hosting community forums and other lessons on all the dangers all students are exposed to."
