WALLED LAKE, Mich. (TCD) -- A 53-year-old father who reportedly embraced QAnon conspiracy theories was shot by police after allegedly fatally shooting his wife and the family dog, and injuring his daughter.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Glenwood Drive after a young woman told dispatchers she had been shot by her father. Walled Lake Police Department officers arrived at the scene and reportedly heard a gunshot as they approached the home.
The Sheriff’s Office said the suspect, Igor Lanis, left the front door of the home with a Remington 870 pump action shotgun and fired toward officers. They reportedly fired back, fatally striking him.
Upon further search of the home, the Sheriff’s Office found the 25-year-old woman who called 911. The woman was transported to a hospital in critical condition, and she was reportedly listed as stable after surgery.
Authorities searched the home and also found Lanis’ 56-year-old wife deceased with multiple gunshot wounds to the back. The Sheriff’s Office said they believe she was trying to exit the home when she was allegedly shot and killed. Additionally, the family dog was found shot dead.
Lanis’ daughter, Rebecca Lanis, told The Detroit News the victims were her mother, Tina Lanis, and sister, Rachel Lanis. She also told the news outlet that her father suffered from mental health issues and he started falling deeper into "crazy ideas" online, including QAnon conspiracy theories.
Rachel Lanis reportedly suffered "super traumatic injuries" after having been shot in the back and legs.
Rebecca Lanis added, "Right-wing extremism is not funny, and people need to watch their relatives, and if they have guns, they need to hide them or report them or something because this is out of control."
