ARLINGTON, Texas (TCD) -- A 24-year-old woman faces murder charges after allegedly setting her 25-year-old boyfriend on fire at a gas station.
According to a news release from the Arlington Police Department, on the evening of July 18 at approximately 9:09 p.m., officers responded to the 1900 block of E. Mayfield Road at a gas station to a report of a fire. At the scene, bystanders reportedly put the fire out using extinguishers.
Upon further investigation, police said Breana Johnson and her boyfriend, Ricky Doyle, began arguing after arriving at the gas station in a Jeep. Johnson allegedly poured gasoline into the backseat of the car, where Doyle was sitting. According to police, Johnson lit the seat on fire, causing her boyfriend to be engulfed in flames.
After Doyle exited the Jeep, Johnson reportedly got back into the driver’s seat and drove away.
On July 19, Johnson was arrested and booked into Tarrant County Jail, records show. Initially, police said Johnson was charged with aggravated assault. However, Doyle reportedly died from his severe burn injuries, and her charge will be upgraded to murder.
Johnson remains held on $50,000 bond.
