SOUTH PASADENA, Calif. (TCD) --
A California man who broke into a residence was beaten and fatally stabbed by his ex-girlfriend's sister and mother as he attacked her in a domestic violence incident Saturday morning.
South Pasadena Police officers responded to a reported domestic violence call in progress on Five Oaks Drive at about 10 a.m. Saturday and found a shattered front window at the residence, with screaming women inside, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept.
Officers entered through the broken window and found an adult white man beaten and stabbed. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Homicide investigators said the man had broken into the residence and had attacked his ex-girlfriend. While he was reportedly beating and choking the woman, the woman's adult sister and her mother struggled with him. Police said the man was beaten with a golf club and stabbed.
The woman who was attacked was hospitalized with facial injuries but has been released, according to the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept.
No charges were immediately announced. The sheriff's department said the investigation is ongoing.
“They were well within their rights to defend her by using deadly force against him,” L.A. County Sheriff's Lt. Barry Hall said, KTLA reports. On Sunday, the L.A. County Coroner's Office identified the man as 40-year-old Justin Goss of Glendale.
“They tried to pull him off, and it didn't work; he was too strong,” Hall said, the L.A. Times reports. “So they had to resort to using weapons.”
