LUBEC, Maine (TCD) -- A 65-year-old man was taken into custody in Virginia after his girlfriend’s body was found in the locked trunk of a car.
In a statement, Maine State Police said on Jan. 10, deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a call about an altercation at 69 Jim’s Head Road. When they arrived, they reportedly found "evidence outside the home that led investigators to believe something suspicious happened at the residence." The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit was contacted to come and investigate.
State Police began looking for Eva Cox, 58, and her boyfriend, Paul DeForest, 65, who both lived at the Jim’s Head Road home. On Jan. 11, Maine State Police worked alongside Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Maine Marine Patrol, and Maine Warden Service to conduct a wider search. A K-9 unit searched around Cox’s home and eventually led to them discovering the body of a female locked in the truck of a car nearby.
According to the Maine State Police, the victim is believed to be Eva Cox, but an autopsy is still pending.
Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for DeForest, who was eventually located at a residence in Warrenton, Va. He was arrested after deputies from the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office negotiated for him to come outside. DeForest is reportedly being held on a fugitive from justice warrant.
