GARY, Ind. (TCD) -- A jury convicted a 27-year-old Kentucky man of killing his missing pregnant girlfriend in 2015, though her body has still not been found.
The Times of Northwest Indiana reports Derron Fuller was found guilty Thursday, April 6, of two counts of murder and one count of obstruction of justice for the death of Rochelle Stubblefield and her unborn child. The jury reportedly deliberated for about two hours before reaching their verdict.
Stubblefield, who was eight months pregnant at the time, has been missing since Nov. 10, 2015. The Gary Police Department said her estimated due date was Dec. 15.
According to the Times of Northwest Indiana, Stubblefield was last seen at a Calumet College basketball game. She reportedly texted her mom the evening of Nov. 10 to tell her she'd be home late because she was going to see Fuller.
Fuller was reportedly the father of the child, and he supposedly told his cousin he killed Stubblefield and buried her behind an elementary school in Gary because he did not want to pay for child support. A woman also reportedly told police in 2019 that Fuller told her he killed Stubblefield, though she testified and said she did not remember Fuller admitting that.
K-9 dogs reportedly searched the elementary school where Fuller allegedly said he buried Stubblefield. The dogs sensed human remains, but investigators did not find anything as they dug.
Fuller's sentencing is scheduled for May 25.
