FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- (WXIN) -- An Indiana man has been charged with conspiring with his girlfriend to try to poison her infant niece by adding crushed painkillers to a bottle of breast milk.
The Journal Gazette reports Marshall Snyder, 23, is accused of telling Sarai Rodriguez-Miranda to kill the girl in text and Facebook messages. Snyder is charged with aiding attempted murder.
Rodriguez-Miranda was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder. Authorities say the Fort Wayne woman tried to poison her niece in January 2017 using a bottle of milk containing enough crushed painkillers to kill an adult.
The Journal Gazette reports she was angry that her mom allowed her brother, his fiancée and the baby to stay at their home longer than expected.
“Omg, id totally put anthrax in their baby formula if I could ... Or rat poison even,” a message to Snyder on Jan. 8 states, according to the affidavit. “Ugh that'd be the best thing ever if their baby died.”
“Yeah, I thought it was funny that I don't have an ounce of guilt,” she wrote, according to the affidavit.
More than 2,200 milligrams of acetaminophen was found in the bottle, according to court documents. Just 900 milligrams would have killed the girl, a forensic toxicologist told police.
The bottle of breast milk laced with the drug was discovered before it was given to the child. The girl was not injured.
