Former high school principal sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for sex acts with student

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. (WSOC/AP) -- A former principal at Lincolnton High School has been sentenced to a maximum of three years and six months in prison for sex crimes involving a student.
Authorities said Tony Worley, 58, had approached a student on a dating app. Court records show that he pleaded guilty in Lincoln County Superior Court to felony counts of sex acts with a student by a school administrator. Police arrested Worley last year and accused him of a “romantic relationship” with a student. Worley resigned that year.
Worley resigned in June 2019 after being accused of contacting a student on Grindr, a dating app for gay men. He also was accused of using SnapChat to send a former student's nude photos to the high schooler.
According to police search warrants, allegations of sexual misconduct were made by a male student who was enrolled at Lincolnton High School during the 2018-2019 academic year, the Lincoln Times-News reports.
In 2019, Worley was charged with two counts of felony indecent liberties with a student, five counts of felony sexual activity with a student, two counts of felony solicitation of sex with a student and two counts of misdemeanor solicitation for indecent liberties with a minor.
