COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) -- Authorities arrested a woman after she intentionally set a car on fire with her toddler inside, the Columbia Police Department said.
Caylin Allise Watson, 23, was held on charges of attempted murder; first-degree arson; third-degree arson; abuse; and infliction of great bodily injury upon a child.
The incident happened on Interstate 126 on May 17 around 1:30 in the afternoon. While parked on the interstate, Watson allegedly set her car on fire while her 14-month-old son sat inside, police said.
The child suffered severe burns and is in critical condition at the Augusta Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia. Watson was treated at the hospital for minor injuries before taken to jail.
Watson was immediately detained after authorities say evidence showed the fire was intentional.
