SUMTER, S.C. (TCD) -- Police arrested a 58-year-old man this week on suspicion of fatally shooting a neighbor who was found unresponsive in front of a home.
On Tuesday, June 20, shortly before 11 p.m., officers from the Sumter Police Department responded to a home on Cheyne Street and found 46-year-old Levon Wilson deceased in the front yard from apparent gunshot wounds.
Upon further investigation, police identified George Anderson as the suspect in Wilson’s slaying. Police said the motive remains unclear, and they noted that Wilson and Anderson were "not acquainted."
Police also said, "There was no indication of a dispute" before the shooting.
Officers took Anderson into custody and booked him into the Sumter County Detention Center on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Anderson was also arrested for an outstanding bench warrant unrelated to the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing.
