California man allegedly attacked bicyclist with machete

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. (TCD) -- A 42-year-old man was recently arrested after allegedly attacking a bicyclist with a machete.
According to a news release from the Rancho Cordova Police Department and the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, on Monday, Nov. 28, Sacramento Metro Fire responded to a report of a bicyclist being hit by a car. At the scene, authorities reportedly found that the victim had not been hit with a vehicle "but rather had been assaulted."
Police said the victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition. The 60-year-old victim suffered injuries that are "not survivable," KCRA-TV reports.
Police identified the suspect as James Hall. Hall, who is homeless, was reportedly found at Shasta Community Park. According to KCRA, Hall used public transportation and went to Cosumnes River College in Sacramento before going to the nearby park.
Upon further investigation, authorities learned Hall allegedly hit the victim in the head with a machete near Zinfandel Drive and Italia Way.
Authorities reportedly recovered the machete believed to have been used in the attack. Hall also left evidence at the nearby preschool, KCRA reports.
The victim had reportedly retired and was riding an electric bicycle when he was attacked.
The suspect's motive is unknown.
