KING COUNTY, Wash. (TCD) -- A 58-year-old man who was wanted for child sex crimes reportedly turned himself in this week not long after officials announced they were searching for him.
On Wednesday, Sept. 28, the King County Sheriff's Office announced detectives were looking for Michael Wearmouth and put out a nationwide $500,000 warrant out for his arrest. The same day, the King County Sheriff's Office said he was in custody after going to authorities himself.
According to court documents cited by KCPQ-TV, Wearmouth and the victim's father met in 2020, and the father reportedly became concerned because Wearmouth paid attention to the victim. The teen reportedly got into a bad car accident last year that left her with traumatic brain injuries. After that, Wearmouth allegedly started spending more time with her.
KCPQ reports the victim, who is now 15, allegedly told police Wearmouth raped her eight times over the course of several months. Wearmouth also allegedly gave the teen meth and weed.
The girl's father reportedly found out about the alleged rapes in September.
Before turning himself in, Wearmouth called a KCPQ reporter and left a voicemail addressing the allegations against him, calling them "not true."
In his message, Wearmouth called it a case of "revenge" enacted by the girl's father.
He said, "This is about a motor, an engine, that I sold somebody — a brand-new motor, transmission, and headlight assemblies. I thought it was a friend of mine. After they took possession of it, they refused to pay for it. So, I destroyed the engine, and this is revenge for that. A week later, I was charged with this."
Wearmouth also reportedly argued he couldn't have raped the girl because he had both testicles removed in 2019 when he had testicular cancer.
KCPQ reports Wearmouth worked as a Little League umpire and had recently started a job in an adult softball league, but he only worked for two days before being removed from the rotation.
Jail records show Wearmouth was booked in the King County Jail on charges of rape of a child, communicating with a minor for immoral purposes, commercial sexual abuse of a minor, and deliver/manufacture/possession with intent to deliver amphetamine/methamphetamine.
