BERKELEY, Mo. (TCD) -- A 31-year-old man faces charges after allegedly beating his 76-year-old neighbor to death with a baseball bat.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, on Wednesday, July 6, authorities found the victim, Eileen Schnitker, dead on her front porch on Kathlyn Drive. She reportedly had been beaten in the face and head, and there were apparent stab wounds on her abdomen.
A Berkeley police detective told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that upon authorities’ arrival, Isaac Heath was allegedly standing on Schnitker’s front porch, swinging the bat and saying, "That felt good."
Heath was arrested at the scene, KSDK-TV reports. He was booked into the St. Louis County Justice Center on charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action, records show.
Heath allegedly suffered from mental health issues and had lived on Kathlyn Drive with his parents until a month ago, when his parents moved out of the house.
St. Louis Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell told KSDK, "The fact patterns of some crimes leave you speechless, and this is one of those."
Bell added, "We’re not talking about a shootout. This is a neighbor checking on her home and she was savagely beaten."
Heath reportedly remains held on $750,000 bond.
